An interesting glimpse into the Heritage:
The Legacy of Paithani weave is atleast a thousand year old, if not more! Born in the small village of Paithan in the state of Maharahstra, this weaving technique used to involve pure gold and copper thin threads. Even now, the glittery gold silk threads remain (though they have been replaced with gold plated silver) as an important element and the colorful sarees are often worn by Maharashtrian brides.
Asawalli means flowering vines in Marathi. Paithani sarees have huge borders and ends (called pallu) that most times have bird and floral depictions.
