Mantis Shrimp Monocles_Menka Desai_Original paintings_edited.jpg

This is a reproduction of the original painting triptych from the collection called 'Birds and Biomes' that was done with gouache and embroidery. It has been printed on acid free, heavy 88lb. Polar Matte Paper using a professional fine art printer. These are greeting cards that are 4"x6" in size when folded and 8"x6" in size when opened. The inside of the cards is left blank and is perfect for handwritten notes.

This is a set of 3 greeting cards. There is an option of selecting your choice of envelope. The set comes with small info cards that describes each artwork.

Info card (Gambel's Quail): With chunky, round bodies and a feather plume on their heads, Gambel’s Quail are ground-feeding birds of the desert. Coveys of them would be found climbing on the thorny cacti and trees to access the leaves and berries. These birds were perfect to paint when paired with saguaros and prickly pear cacti.

Info card (Rose-faced Lovebirds): Unsurprisingly, Lovebirds mate for life and even pine for a lost love. Even though they are not native to the deserts, they love arid and dry climates. So many would be seen inhabiting the holes and crevices of the oldest saguaros that are 30 feet tall. Through this scene, I wanted to showcase their love for their mate and the feel of living in a community.

Info card (Great Horned Owl): With a round face along with ear tufts and a white throat, Great Horned Owls are the largest owl in the Sonoran deserts. They have giant cat-like eyes that do not move. Trying to capture those characteristics, I decided to paint the owl perched on the oldest saguaro in the desert with a decidedly unimpressed stare.

Each greeting card is made to order, so please allow 2-3 business days prior to shipping.
